Drakensberg Trail Festival set for 3-5 Dec. LIV (Durban) and WESSA (Midlands) this weekend.

Drakensberg Trail Festival

The Mountain Marathon Series and Drakensberg Trail Festival dove-tail on the first weekend of December at Alpine Heath in the Northern KZN Drakensberg! Acting as the finale of the Mountain Marathon Series, there will be epic dueling for the top-spots at the front of the 42km race and the elites race it out through the epic valleys and ridgelines on the iconic “DNT” route.

The 42km proved tougher than expected, despite much of the course being the same as the original DNT route. Running in December also offers a different perspective of the landscape with many of the wild flowers budding.

But you don’t have to be a Racing Snake to be part of the action! A variety of distances are on offer – come and enjoy the Drakensberg and some magnificent trails with the trail community in an awesome venue!

Being a festival, there is a Friday Night Run (5km & 10km), 4 main races on Saturday, trails talks, equipment demos from TrailShed and adventure films on Saturday evening to wrap things up.

Only 10 Chalets left on-site! Accommodation at the venue is prime and only 10 6 sleeper chalets remain available at the runners rate through KZNTR.

Kruger2Canyon entries open on 1 November!

What has become one of South Africa’s legendary stage races has seen drama over the past few years, finally taking place again this past September, only to be cut short by a wild fire on top of Mareipskop mountain.

Now back to its’ July date when running conditions are most ideal, we look forward to presenting the 2022 edition

The venue will remain at Laerskool Mariepskop and we will be shifting the race village out onto the field with an expansive area for camping. The dorm option will also be available.

The greater Hoedspruit area has boomed recently as city dwellers seek new options in more rural settings. Accommodation options are plentiful for those looking for a bit of comfort or luxury. An of course you need to book your trip to the game reserve for a post-race recovery spoil!!

THIS WEEKEND: LIV Village - Saturday (new event) WESSA - Sunday

Heading into our last double-header weekend, probably ever. We certainly don’t intend on making a habit of squeezing events into an already busy calendar!

(Speaking of calendar our 2022 calendar is taking shape and will be released soon with a few surprises…)

But back to focusing on what lies right up ahead…
We are VERY excited to present an event with LIV2Run. The KZNTR team went through this morning to join the LIV team who have been hard at it for a while. Brand new events are always exciting, but this one has a very special partner and reason behind it. Check out the event page on Facebook HERE to see what this race means to the LIV2Run Team and get behind them by entering – it’s only 20min from Durban after all.

Sunday takes us back into the Midlands on what is becoming an Golden Oldie in the KZNTR backyard! We’ve always maintained that the long course at WESSA is a brilliant training ground for the big Ultras still coming up at the end of the year. We’ve also mixed things up on the short course and added a new section of single track, views and steep little climb! 😉

Hope you see you on the weekend.
Looks like beautiful Sunshine on Saturday and glorious rain on Sunday!
