Take in the best of the Drakensberg World Heritage Site’s most iconic peaks, summit Baba Omkhulu and enjoy pristing mountain trails and 1800m of climbing.

Our middle distance, with almost 1000m of climbing is still a proper challenge for even accomplished runners.

A runnable trail with a bit of everything, some steep climbs and technical downhills with plenty of flowing track.

A 5 and 10km night race will take place on Friday, 03 December 2021 and will have some slight changes to the course routes of the day races.

Friday 3 December

2pm – Trail Equipment Demo

Sunday 5 December

8am – Stretch out 5k

  • 1L Hydration Capacity
  • Waterproof Outerlayer
  • Whistle
  • Basic first aid
  • Emergency Blanket
  • Food Reserve (200 Calories)

Please note that the following additional equipment is required for prevailing cold conditions:

  • Long-sleeve Thermal Base Layer
  • Tights | Waterproof Pants | Thermals
  • Waterproof Gloves
  • Beanie or Neck Scarf

Drakensberg Trail Festival

The Drakensberg Trail Festival is a celebration of all things Trail and Ultra Running set in the most majestic, untouched mountain range in South Africa.
It doesn’t matter who you are, how many times you have visited ‘the Berg’ you can never get tired of the majestic mountain trails that the Drakensberg World Heritage Site is renowned for. The running trails incorporate and interweave some of the most famous peaks in the park, from Sungubala to Babangibona, Vultures Colony, Mount Lebanon and Baboon Rock.

Venue: aha Alpine Heath Resort and Conference Center, Bergville.

From Durban (ETA 3hr 10min):

  • Travel Northbound on the N3.
  • Take Exit 194 and turn left onto R74 and follow for ~72km.
  • Turn left at the “Alpine Health” Signpost and follow for ~7.3km.
  •  Turn right and after 4.5km, turn right again and follow for ~4.3km to reach aha Alpine Resort.
From Johannesburg (ETA 3hr 36min):
  • Travel Southbound on the N3 for ~258km.
  • Use the left lane to get to the Harrismith/Bethlehem ramp to the N5.
  • Turn left after 400m onto the R74 and follow for ~44.6km.
  • Turn right at the “Alpine Health” Signpost and follow for ~7.3km.
  •  Turn right and after 4.5km, turn right again and follow for ~4.3km to reach aha Alpine Resort.
