Gilboa Challenge - rated as one of our best!
Dear Trail Runners and Walkers,
The weather forecast for this weekend is looking ideal and we are excited to return to one of our most beautiful routes!
Traversing endangered Midlands Mistbelt Grassland, Mistbelt forest and the top of the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall, but be warned – it is not named a “Challenge” for nothing…
With some 650-700m of climbing, completing this Challenge comes with serious bragging rights!
Pura Soda will be providing finish line hydration to all runners – no colourants, additives or sugar overload… just like the air in the Karkloof!

Win with Karkloof Trail Series & 11 Karkloof!
After an exciting Backyard Ultra, the Karkloof Trail Series is just hotting up! We couldn’t help but share the stoke, so we have collabed with 11 Karkloof and the Old Mushroom Farm to run a lucky draw on Facebook and Instagram.
The prize package is worth R10,000 (!!) including:
– An entry into any Karkloof Trail Series event
– A 2 night stay for 4 people at The Apartment at 11 Karkloof (worth R4200)
– Breakfast at Home Slice cafe
Visit the Karkloof Trail Series’ Facebook or Instagram to enter. Hurry – you have until 12pm on Friday!
11 Karkloof and the Old Mushroom Farm have a special place in Karkloof 100 history as the first (and last) aid station on the route in 2017 and 2018 – a hub of activity and excitement and the light at the end of the tunnel for some; for others, a place where those final ‘can I carry on?’ decisions were made.
With new food, arts, crafts, accommodation and events, The Old Mushroom Farm has become one of the vibiest spots along the Karkloof Road – well worth a stop as part of your race and training weekends!
Babanango cancelled
We are truly disappointed to announce the cancelation of the Babanango Mountain Marathon, which would have happened on 29 May 2021.
We have made this call based on the low number of entries we received for the race (38 across all distances). With this number of entries, we cannot afford to cover the costs and use our resources for this race.
We are still affected by the Covid Pandemic and we believe that making these decisions will allow KZNTR to continue to host events at a standard that we are proud of for years to come!
We trust that the runners understand our decision and hope to see you at future KZNTR events!
All entrants have been sent an email regarding their options- please check your inboxes, if you haven’t already!
