Get sticky at Honey Trails!

It looks like we’re set for a sweltering summer, if the first event of the KZN Trail Running Summer Series held at Dusi Trails is anything to go by. A great turnout of avid trail runners and walkers worked up a good sweat in the beautiful indigenous bushveld of Dusi Trails in Ashburton, a light breeze providing some relief from the burning African morning.

We’re not sure what the weatherman has in store for the second instalment of the Summer Series but one thing is for sure – the courses through Honey Trails will be sizzling hot and exciting! Situated in Monteseel, Honey Trails is ideally located for participants from both Durban and Pietermaritzburg, approximately 35 minutes travel from either. The magnificent forested valleys of Honey Hill have been left untouched and in their natural state for the past five decades. Over this period, it has become a refuge for various wildlife including a diversity of birds and wildflowers along with the impressive and striking magnificence of the Cabbage and Flatcrown trees. It’s not difficult to see why this is a favourite destination of lovers of the trail and outdoors alike!

Taking place on Sunday 17 November, the event will offer three distances of 5km, 10km and 15km. The 5km is a fantastic event for trail running “newbies”, kids and full family involvement. The 10km and 15km events pose more of a challenge in terms of technical difficulty and fitness required, particularly the 15km. Walkers are welcome on the 5km and 10km courses and there will be water tables on all the courses. In a bid to minimise their carbon footprint and do away with the unnecessary production of single use plastics KZN Trail Running events have successfully been “cupless” for a couple of years now so participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle, soft cup or hydration pack to fill up at the water tables.

Friendly chatter between participants – young and old, experienced and novice

In keeping with KZNTR’s ethos of getting the whole family involved and ensuring a morning of thrills and enjoyment for all, the KZNTR KidZone will be action for kids 2yrs and older. This is a complimentary service for parents who are participating, allowing them to hit the trails with peace of mind. Children will be under the supervision of experienced child minders who will provide them with stimulating entertainment and games.

A fully loaded race village will be on site, including delicious food and drink, great vibe, the always warm atmosphere created by the trail “family”, and great lucky draw prizes will be up for grabs during prize giving.

Pre-entries for Honey Trails close at noon on Friday 15 November but on the day entries will be available (late entry surcharge applies). The final event in the Summer Series takes place at the ever popular Hilton College on 01 December.
