Dear Trail Runners and Walkers,

One of the most common questions that we get asked when in conversation about one of our events is “so are you running too?” ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพ
The short answer is “No, we don’t run our own events”.
The long answer is a lot more complex and involves noting that, should something need actioning during the race (and there is always some/many things), the organiser is responsible…someone needs to be on hand to make decisions and implement the necessary action.

So as a result, in the last 14years, we have not run nearly as much as our jobs might suggest and we get our joy out of the creating of platforms for experience for our participants.

But there is something to be said for being in the thick of the action…

This past weekend we were able to be “In It” as crew for the Mac Mac Ultra, manning the aid station at half way of the 100miler and 150miles ๐Ÿ˜ฑ into the 200miler. Not running, but on a different side of an event for a change.
We loved it, none more-so than Ben & Charlie, who both tell me they want to run a 100miler in the future! There is a strong possibility that they are swayed by the unlimited access to sweets, but to every single runner who has ever wondered why they don’t just quit, know that you are busy inspiring the most unexpected people…

But from the sidelines, Andrew moves onto a start line this weekend.

He is participating in the “Siyafunda Slog”, a 2day, 100km hike in the Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve. Raising funds for monitoring research and conservation interventions in Makalali is a huge motivating factor for this bush-loving endurance runner, but I can see the glint of start-line anticipation in his eyes again!

Andrew has spent countless hours on foot in this reserve during his Trails Guide training, so the cause is very close to his heart. He will be participating as a guide, so not only does he have to get the distance done, but he has to keep alert to keep his fellow participants safe…

Please consider donating to his fund raising and help him to reach his goal. Just like the collective effort of a crew at a 100miler helps the athlete to complete their goal, it takes a collective effort of lots of people giving a little to reach a big goal!

We will keep everyone updated as to his progress as he “slogs it out”!!

See you on the trail,
Andrew, Lauren, Sanele & the KZNTR team

Uitsoek entries opening soon

Uitsoek is Uitsoek – why you ask?

Well we can’t quite put our finger on it, to be honest…

But it is to do with the unique, relaxed atmosphere, where anything goes.
Results don’t matter – being out there does.
Soaking it up.
Accepting the โ€œhardโ€ with good humor. Being awestruck at the views.
Sharing stories around the bonfire.
Relishing the lack of cell signal – connecting with other campers instead.

All these unquantifiable things are what makes Uitsoek one of our favourite events on the calendar.

Entries open on 29 May with a great Early Bird discount, so put the Quick Info into your diaries and come be part of what makes Uitsoek it’s own, unique, special self.
