Lesotho Ultra - the one that makes me cry!!
Dear Trail Runners & Walkers,
Lesotho Ultra is a race that has captured the hearts of all who have journeyed there. And I say “journey” because not only is the cross-border travel an exciting adventure, but the passage from start to finish at Lesotho Ultra challenges and inspires participants in equal measure.
Spending some 11km above 3000m asl pits runners against the elements – the weather, the thin air, and their physiology! While the event is supported by aid stations right Up There (!!!) and mountain medics, a level of self-sufficiency is needed to safely traverse these mountains.
People change up there, in such profound ways that it is written on their faces at the finish line. So much so, that these people, these warriors – some I know well, others strangers until race day – make me cry. Every. Single. Time.
To see people make themselves vulnerable on that start line, nervous, excited, and eager, only to return hours later with “I have Seen” written all over their being is emotional to witness.
To me, it defines truly living!!
I can’t wait to see who lines up at Lesotho Ultra in November and how it impacts on their souls!
See you in Lesotho,
Lauren
