Dear Trail Runners and Walkers,
Entries are open with a 48hr special for an old favourite but new to KZNTR, the Mnweni Marathon!
Known for its super-technical terrain and unpredictable weather, this section of the berg is historically (and fondly) considered by hardy mountaineers as “remote and treacherous” as the paths are “long and steep”.
Having grown in popularity and prestige over its 19-year history, the Mnweni Marathon is the ultimate mountain running experience that you won’t want to miss!
The main event is the 40km Marathon, which has been included in the newly-launched Mountain Marathon Series. We have also introduced three shorter distances of 20km, 10km and 6km, making a great weekend of running for all levels of runners and walkers.
Take advantage of our 48-hour opening special and save 15% on your entry! Valid until 10am on Sunday. Accommodation on site is limited – options include rondavels, dorms, tented accommodation or self-camping.
Mnweni race founder, the legendary Bruce Arnett had this to say about the passing of the helm –
“It is not without an ache of sadness but also with the hope of seeing that which commenced with me flourish in new hands that I have elected to pass on the running of the Mnweni Marathon events to Martin and Rory at KZN Trail Running from 2020 onwards…”
Mnweni Marathon was Martin Crous’s first ever trail event (not recommended!) – “I’ve loved this event over the years and appreciate where it stands in the community. I will strive to honour what Bruce had established over the years and to grow the trail community together.”
KZNTR is so excited to be moving forward with the Mnweni Marathon under our banner and we are grateful to Bruce for trusting us with it. And we sincerely hope to see him on the start line come May…!
The May Mnweni event (the Spring Mnweni takes place in September and will retain its back-to-basics ethos) the second event in the Mountain Marathon Series (MMS) – other events. Click the link below for details on the Series.
If you have any queries, please send them to Martin (martin@kzntrailrunning.co.za).
See you at Mnweni,
Martin, Rory & the KZNTR Team
