Experience the adventure of a lifetime at the Amatikulu Trails, where the journey begins at the Hatchery—a unique coastal retreat transformed from a prawn farm into a charming beach lagoon accommodation centre. Whether camping under the stars or staying in cozy rooms, the Hatchery is the perfect base for your trail running adventure. From here, you’ll embark on an exciting boat ride across the estuary to the Amatikulu Nature Reserve. Discover the beauty of coastal savannahs and encounter a variety of wildlife, including Zebra, Giraffe, and antelope, as you run through this stunning reserve. The race concludes at the Hatchery, where you can relax and celebrate your achievements.

For the medium and long courses, there will be four boat rides: two during the race and two for the return. The first takes runners from the race village at the Hatchery to the starting line across the estuary. Around the 3 km mark, runners will cross the Nyoni River into the Amatikulu reserve, where most of the race occurs. Boats at this crossing operate every 5 to 10 minutes, carrying up to 12 people at a time and departing on a first-come, first-served basis once full. This process will repeat for the return trip and at the race’s end. Competitive runners should strategize accordingly, as wait times may affect overall race positions and allow chasers to catch up.
