Dear Trail Runners and Walkers,
We are excited to be returning to Hebron Haven next weekend (21 June) for the second running of the Hebron Haven Trail Run. Following the postponement earlier this year due to the Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak, we’re looking forward to finally getting back onto these fantastic Midlands trails.
Based at the historic Hebron Haven Hotel in The Dargle, runners can expect a route network that showcases some of the best terrain the area has to offer. From open grasslands and winding river sections to towering forests, plantations, farm roads, and scenic countryside views, each course offers its own unique experience while sharing the relaxed charm that made the inaugural event such a success.
The trails weave through a diverse mix of landscapes, following windbreaker tree lines, crossing open farmland, skirting peaceful farm dams, and exploring cool forest sections beneath the canopy. Runners will enjoy flowing jeep tracks, stretches alongside the uMngeni River, and rolling climbs that reveal sweeping views across the Dargle countryside. The terrain is varied enough to keep things interesting throughout, yet runnable enough to reward those prepared to settle into a steady rhythm.
One of the things that stood out during the inaugural event was just how much fun people had on these trails. From first-time trail runners to experienced competitors, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many runners commenting on the balance of scenery, route variety, and enjoyable running conditions. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back for another memorable day in the Midlands.
Online entries close Friday, 19 June at midnight.

Back to Its Roots: The 1000 Hills Challenge Returns
The 1000 Hills Challenge is back, and if you’ve ever taken part, you’ll know it lives up to every part of its name. Few events can match the history, character, and sheer toughness of this iconic race.
Dating back to October 2012, when it was first known as the Crazy Store 1000 Hills Challenge, the event quickly built a reputation for delivering exactly what it promised: plenty of hills and plenty of challenge. Year after year its popularity grew, attracting runners eager to test themselves against one of KZN’s toughest trail experiences. The race then moved to Shongweni and Giba Gorge for a few years, loosing its way and brand slightly.
Now, in 2026, the 1000 Hills Challenge returns to where it all began.
Back at Nagle Dam. Back in its traditional winter slot. Back to the hills, river crossings, rugged climbs, and unforgettable views that made the event what it is today.
Runners will once again circumnavigate the dam, and with the marathon distance returning to the programme, there has never been a better time to test your resolve and take on the challenge.
Be ready for a crisp winter morning.
Be ready for the warm glow across Nagle Dam.
Be ready to push your limits.
Be ready for the 1000 Hills Challenge.
