Honoring the legacy of Grant Cummings

Dear Trail Runners & Walkers,
This week the KZN running community has been rocked by the tragic loss of Grant Cummings. Grant was a pillar of the running community, founded the Upper Highway Trail Snakes group and he is credited by countless people for inspiring and mentoring their trail running journey.
Grant was a KZNTR supporter from our early days, always humble and a true gentleman that we are privileged to have hosted. A talented runner, he regularly out-ran participants half his age and podiumed, most recently at Hilton College in December 2022.
We offer our deepest condolences to Grantβs family and friends and hope for comfort and healing at this time of heartbreak.
To honor his memory, we will hold a moment of silence at the upcoming Hilton and Westville races.
Rest in peace, Grant. Your wisdom and spirit will continue to guide us on the trails.
Andrew, Lauren, Sanele & the KZNTR Team

New event in lush Westville next Sunday!
We are excited to be hosting a race at the Westville Eco Trails!
Westville Eco Trails is a popular paradise for nature enthusiasts and avid runners alike, hosting a diversity of fauna and flora, as well as an abundance of birds. The park is also home to one of the second most challenging parkruns, with bush, grasslands, single tracks and river bridges throughout the course and is a must for trail runners.
The event is looped (5km loop, + 2km loop) through the lush bush on smooth, runnable trails. We’ve also discounted the 5km to R95 and the 7km is priced as the usual short-course price.
Entries limited to 300 to avoid bottle-necking and batched starts (select your batch when entering).

Howick Trail next in the Midlands Series
The 3rd event in the series takes you through he La Petit France Dairy Farm and Westfalia Avos. Picture rolling grasslands with scenic views of the uMngeni Valley and glimpses of the Karkloof Falls!
These are very manageable courses and highly recommended for those starting out and keen to increase their distances.
There are some sections of off-trail running, but overall this route is not too technical.
The shorter course is easier on the legs & a win for novices and kids – perfect to make it a family outing and get everyone out there!
