A summer trail challenge with a touch of elegance
This Sunday, 19 January 2020, we revisit the graceful beauty of Seaton Estate for a summer experience on purpose-built single track, jeep track and awesome boardwalks.
A north coast gem, the Seaton Summer Challenge offers lush coastal forest, green plantations, crashing waves and sand beneath your feet.
Choose to test your distance and speed on the long and medium courses, or start your journey with the flowing short course.
Pre-entries close at midday on Friday. Late entries will be available on the day, but the late entries fee (+R50) applies to adults. U18s still pay under half-price!
There’s no need to worry about the kids, the KZNTR KidZone is available with experienced childminders and will make sure they are well cared for with lots of fun while you run!
Sprawl out on the green lawns afterwards in a race village that will be fully stocked to meet your every need – think good food and drink, trail gear, sports massages and more!

DNT nearly sold out
With the launch of the Mountain Marathon Series (MMS, click link for info & entries), the interest in the opening event in the Series, Drakensberg Northern Trail, has taken flight! While the big names roll in with their eyes on the competition (keep your eyes peeled for announcements…), others set their sights on an epic year of mountain running.
So much so, that there are only 27 entries left for the flagship 40km event!
Limited to 150 entries in each of the 40k and 20k, these have sold out for the past few years in a row so it is no surprise that we are down to the last few entries and the launch of the MMS has just added to the interest.
Organiser Martin Crous said “We have been blown away by how well the MMS has been received by the trail running community and we have some amazing elite runners in the mix already! But its not just about the sharp end of the race – we encourage and welcome hikers to participate in the Series. Registered hikers will set off on the route with our mountain medical team before the official start of the races. I’m most excited for people of all athletic abilities to experience the Drakensberg – it’s a place so very dear to my heart and I can’t wait to share it with everyone!”
Fellow organiser Rory Scheffer added “I’m super-excited to be part of the KZNTR team as we embark on the all new MMS. I’ll be involved behind the scenes in organising the events, plus I get the chance to toe the line against some of SA’s top trail runners come race day!”
We will be releasing tented packages soon (tent and mattress supplied with access to a camper’s kitchen), for those who are still looking for accommodation otions.
If you have already entered but now want to upgrade to the full MMS, drop info@kzntrailrunning.co.za a message and Kajal will facilitate this for you.

A sad day in our KZNTR family
Many of you will already be aware that, following our event at Aloe Wildlife Estate near Ashburton on Sunday, one of the runners went missing and after an extensive search involving the police, was found deceased at the venue.
This has been a huge shock to all of us at KZNTR and we are deeply saddened by Thandeka’s untimely passing.
We thank our team and the Police for their tireless work to resolve the case and await the forensic results that will hopefully provide answers to as to how this tragedy occurred.
We hold Thandeka’s loved ones in our thoughts at this tragic time and will observe a moments silence in Thandeka’s memory before the start of each event at the Seaton Trail Run this coming weekend.
This news has affected our small community immensely and we thank you all for your support for the family and the KZNTR team through such difficult times.
