KZN Trail Running

Lesotho Ultra Trail

23 – 25 November 2018

Mountain Challenge

The 38km route is the same as the 50km route for the first 36km. It’s only at the main Aid Station that the route splits off from the 50km and heads back to the finish at Maliba Lodge.

Ultra Sky Marathon

The biggest challenge of the day on the 50km course starts around the 40km mark where runners now climb back up to the high altitude aid station- Camp Davis.Reaching the aid station at the top of the second big climb comes with great relief and the final 7km seem relatively easy by comparison. Some of the steep descent off the top will test tiring quads, but the end is in sight and most find the final stages of the race very enjoyable.

a great family getaway

In the heart of the Lesotho Highlands lies the Maluti Mountains, some of the best terrain for high altitude running in the world. Serving as the “veins” of this region, an intricate network of trails exists along the valleys and mountain flanks, connecting many of the remote villages. Used primarily by livestock and shepherds, many of the mountain passes have been established by hand, allowing people and animals to pass through the Maluti Mountain Range on foot. It is this ancient philosophy of man’s primal need to explore and conquer his surrounding terrain that has lead to the development of the Lesotho Ultra.
