This is the perfect beginner’s route. Starting at the picturesque Aloe Wildlife Estate, the course heads down a gentle jeep track, before moving onto flowing single track through the thornveld. At the half-way point, the route turns, climbing back out the valley, winding between the aloes and acacias. The climb is gentle but steady, back to the finish.

The medium course follows the 6km route, peeling off just before the finish onto a second loop on different trails. This section drops into the valley again, taking in more scenic thornveld and aloes. It returns up to a moderate climb, past horse paddocks and into the finish.

The 20km route completes all of the 13km route before looping back into the bushveld for the final 7 kilometers. The final few kilometers are along the same track.

in Race Village

Aloe Wildlife Trail is back with it’s fast-flowing courses that serves as a perfect introduction to the trails for first timers and as a challenge to regulars to test their speed. With plenty of antelope running about the aloe studded bushveld, Aloe Wildlife Trail is a great Sunday escape to bring an end to the weekend.

Online Entries and Registration

Online entries will open on Friday. 22 November 2019 with the Early Bird special at 10:00am. Early Bird tickets will be available until Friday, 20 December 2019 at 12:00pm. Online entries will close at Midday on Friday, 10 January 2020. Please note that entries will be available on the day of the event but at a R50 surcharge (U18s exempt). Registration and late entries will open at 6:00am and close at 7:30am on the day of the event. Please arrive with plenty of time to process your registration.


Cupless Water Tables

As KZNTR is moving toward the more ecologically friendly cupless water tables, we ask you to please ensure that you bring your own trail cup, water bottles and/or hydration packs for on course hydration and refills!


KZNTR KidZone will be available for Children (2yrs+). Experienced childminders will allow parents to get out and enjoy exhilarating trails by distracting (and watching over) the little ones with stimulating and fun activities at the Race Village.

African Bird of Prey Sanctuary

Visit the African Bird of Prey Sanctuary on Lion Park Road after your run to complete your morning out. Vulture Feeding Sessions take place on weekends and public holidays at 12:30pm.


Venue: Aloe Wildlife Estate, Lion Park outside Pietermaritzburg

  • Travel on the N3 (southbound for Pietermaritzburg and northbound for Durban.
  • From N3 Take Lynnfield Park/Lion Park offramp.
  • Travel towards the Lion Park for 1.5km and Aloe Wildlife Estate is on the left, at bluegum trees opposite the old Rainbow Chicken Farm.
