Course Details

The short course cuts through the middle of the dam using an exciting tunnel and runs around the bottom half of the dam.

The short course cuts through the middle of the dam using an exciting tunnel and runs around the bottom half of the dam. Runners can expect to see some wildlife like Zebra and Impala in the Msinsi Reserve.

Longer courses will circumnavigate the entire dam as well as explore parts of the river above the dam. 

The longer courses have an adventurous river crossing and steep climbs.

Water Tables: Approximately every 10km. 38km has 3, 21km has 2 and the 10km has 1.

Pre-entries close at midday on 27 July 2017. Late entries available, but +R40 surcharge applies (U18s exempt). Race entry includes: entry into Msinsi Nagle Dam and finishers badge to everyone. 

The 20km & 38km entry also includes a post-race massage and race garment. Race garment available to purchase to 5km & 10km entrants and spectators (R250). Registration from 6:30am. Walkers welcome on the 5km & 10km course! KZNTR Kidzone available for children 2yrs +. 

Experienced child minders & stimulating games while parents can enjoy the trails! 

Finishline hydration to all runners. Catering to satisfy all palates and thirsts will be available: Exploring Coffee, Craft Beer, pancakes and a delicious selection of post race meals will be on offer from Ekayise Delicacies. 

Ekayise Delicacies Sauces (Jalapeno Mayo/Chilli Chutney) -R25 each. Don’t rush off after the race… make sure you stay for prize giving! 

Compulsory Equipment: 38km and 20km participants must carry 2L of hydration and a cell phone. A base (warm) layer and water proof jacket are highly recommended.

(do NOT use a gps navigator / Google Maps – these are not accurate through the valley!)

From PMB (35 mins) (Hilton side): Travelling South take the Chota Motala off-ramp in Pietermaritzburg and turn left. Go straight and at the third set of robots turn right towards Greytown. At the first robots, turn right into Ohrtmann Rd. Travel straight at at the 1st set of robots, turn left into Manning Avenue. Cross the Baynespruit stream and turn left at the 2nd set of robots (Shell Garage on you right). Travel up the hill for +- 2km and turn right onto the Table Mountain Rd. The turn is sign posted: Table Mountain. Travel straight on this road for about 25km. Continue on straight past the turn-offs to the D1001 and D1026 and then down a steep hill into the uMngeni Valley. Cross the cattle grid into the Msinsi Reserve and continue for another 2km, where the main entrance to Nagle Dam will come up on your left. Follow KZNTR Signage to the Picnic Site.

From PMB (35mins) (Durban side): Travelling North on the N3, take the Ohrtmann Road off-ramp in Pietermaritzburg and turn right over the highway. From Durban (1hr) (NB: Drive via PMB if you are unsure about this route): Travel north of the N3 and take the Cato Ridge off-ramp. Turn right back over the highway onto the R103. Follow the R103 through Cato Ridge and after 3kms turn left into Eddie Hagen Drive. After 3kms on Eddie Hagen Drive turn left (sign posted “Nagle Dam”) and follow this road down into the Valley. Cross the uMsunduzi River at the bottom of the Valley. Follow this tar road for about 10kms. Keep left when the road splits- do not go over the narrow bridge over the Umngeni River- continue on the poor tar road. The main entrance to Nagle Dam will come up on your right.
